Frequently Asked Questions
Below we answer some of the more frequently asked questions we receive here at About U Counselling. We hope you find the answer to any questions you may have. If not don’t hesitate in contacting usand we will answer your question as fast as possible.

How many sessions will I need?

This will be agreed at the introductory session.

How do I know confidentiality will be kept?

We offer a high level of confidentiality. It would be professionally unethical of us to do otherwise.

What if I do not keep an appointment?

Once you give us 48 hours notice before a session that you are unable to attend you will not be charged for that session.

What if I do not like counselling?

Sometimes counselling can be uncomfortable at the start and there is no magic cure. It can happen that things can feel worse before they get better. However, if you are prepared to examine your feelings, it may enable you to make more sense of the world around you.

My problem is not that major?

Some people use counselling for personal development to look at improving skills in confidence, assertiveness and self esteem building. You may just want a listening ear to help you move forward in a different direction.

What will counselling require of me?

The basic requirement is that you agree with your counsellor a time and day each week when you will be available for sessions, and that you pay your counselling fees. People often feel that counselling will inevitably be painful, and this can sometimes be the case, but what you will find is that you feel supported by your counsellor in facing whatever it is you need to face.

Where are we based?

We have counsellors located in various parts in Dublin.

How Will I know if I am with the right Counsellor?

If you call or email you will be connected  directly to a qualified, experienced and accredited counsellor. Here you will be free to talk about your concerns in such a way that the therapist will match you (perhaps you prefer a male or female therapist, certain age group, location in Dublin, a particular approach etc) with a therapist who best suits you. Ask anything you like. It is always a good idea to check out the person you will be attending with—-so have a list ready.

Why choose us?

All our counsellors are qualified to at least BA (hons) in Counselling and Psychotherapy. They are members of the IACP, IAAAC, IHIP and other organisations. They also have many years experience in the practice of Counselling and Psychotherapy and vast experience in the community and voluntary sector.
